Wellbrae Terrace, Aberdeen
The original kitchen in this semi-detached house was tucked into a long narrow lean-to the rear and the existing cellular rooms were not practical for contemporary family living. Therefore re-organising the spaces within the existing house as well as creating more living space that was better connected to the outside were the key client requirements .
The centrally located open plan kitchen and dining space have clean lines which accentuate the original features of the building. The garden room extension leads from the dining space into the garden, with a concealed utility space accessed via the kitchen. The zinc clad roof design draws light deep into the existing building and large sliding doors open up the whole space onto the garden. The composition and materials were chosen to define the new building elements whilst sitting well with the traditional granite and slate.
