St Devenicks Terrace, Cults

The Brief

The brief was to create a new open plan kitchen and family area on the ground floor to the rear of the existing property. Internal layout changes included a bathroom and bedroom on the first floor, and the removal of the ground floor granite wall.

The Design

A new kitchen/dining/family room has been created to the rear of the property, replacing the old kitchen and utility room. The proposed internal alterations provide a connection to the garden by the addition of a frameless oriel window removing the corner of the building with uninterrupted views of the garden. The frameless oriel window cantilevers to form a deep window reveal allowing  family members to sit at the window seat surrounding the dining table creating a beautiful social space.

The existing first floor dormer is replaced with a contemporary dark grey zinc clad addition harmonising with the existing granite masonry walls and complimenting the slate roof.  This allows a bedroom and bathroom to be incorporated into this space.
