Our clients had recently purchased a new house which comprised a three bedroomed family home and a two bedroomed granny annex. The existing kitchen was too small for the family and our clients initially hoped to build an extension to increase its size, as well as carrying out alterations to incorporate the granny annex into the main home.
During the design process, it became clear that an extension might not be necessary to achieve the accommodation needed. Instead, we suggested re-configuring the house to create a new kitchen/dining/family room in the old granny annex. The internal layout was rationalised to create better, more straightforward circulation space which now incorporates a library area. A new large master bedroom with en-suite and dressing room was created in the previous granny annex and the original bedrooms re-configured upstairs. The finished house is now a spacious home suitable for the needs of a growing family.
